BLOOMINGTON – The depth of Franklin Central’s gymnastics team enabled the Flashes to win the Valentine’s Invitational at Bloomington North with a team score of 108.125. FC’s Feb. 13 effort topped runner-up New Castle (104.9) and third-place No. 17 Bloomington South (104.25).
Franklin Central’s Emily Baker was a winner on both the vault (9.6) and beam (9.55) while finishing second in the floor exercise at 9.2. Baker also tied for second in the all-around with Ashlan Millikan of New Castle at 36.6.
Madison Sorely of Franklin Central (9.6) won the floor exercise, while teammate Molly Moran finished fourth in the all-around. A key to the team victory was the Flashes’ ability to routinely place gymnasts among the top six finishers in the individual events.
Jeffersonville’s Ashley Gallahar won the uneven bars with a 9.2, captured the all-around with a 36.925, and finished second on the beam (9.35) and third in the floor (9.15). Her performance stood out because of the complexity of her stunts as the level of difficulty in her routines was above what most of her competitors could match.
